THE BACK LIGHT ON E28
OBC

This one is a simple one, first, if you have telescopic steering, pull it all the way out. Undo the two small Phillips screws out of the top forward edge of the
instrument cluster.
Tilt the cluster forward, remove the wires from the back, take the time to look at what you are doing, you will need to put the wires back in the exact same places when you reinstall it. You should be able to slide the cluster out towards the drivers door. If you don't have the telescopic wheel, you may need to place the cluster in the large opening of the wheel and turn it towards the door, this will give you clearance to remove the cluster. Remove the two Phillips screws holding the OBC panel into the dash, pull the entire assembly into the opening where the cluster was, unplug the unit and remove. On the right side of the OBC, you will find the white plastic light board. Grab the light board with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull it out, just like pulling a tooth.
Installation is reverse of removal. When installing the wires on the cluster make sure the two small plugs, one blue and the other white, go back into the same slots. The back of the cluster is marked Blau and Weiss, pretty obvious. If you get these wrong, your cruise control will not work.
